Inspired by YouTuber booksandquills, this post will walk you through how to make your own spring reading list to help you get excited for the warmer months, whilst also ensuring you hit all your reading goals this season. We’ve even added some helpful tips on how to add your own creative flair to your list, making this the perfect boredom-busting activity for these cold winter months.

  1. Pick out some spring-themed reads.
An obvious first step to creating a spring reading list is to identify some books you’re interested in reading in the coming months. Whether these are books you’ve wanted to read for a while, or books you’ve only just encountered, this list will be a great way of recording your progress.
If you’d like some reading recommendations perfect for this time of year, here are some of Rowanvale’s favourite books which follow a springtime theme:
  • If you like nature and the outdoors – try The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert, author of bestselling Eat Pray Love. This book follows the life of Alma Whittaker, a botany enthusiast whose work takes her across the world as she learns more about the mysteries of evolution. With clear links to nature, exploration and travel, this book is perfect for those who love the greenery and plants that come with springtime.
  • If you like love and romance – try Twice Shy by Sarah Hogle. A classic enemies-to-lovers story, this book follows Maybell Parish, the inheritor of her aunt’s Tennessee manor, and her relationship with the manor’s groundskeeper, Wesley. If you love a feel-good romantic comedy, this book perfectly encapsulates the budding romance associated with the spring months.
  • If you like new beginnings – try Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune by Roselle Lim. Following news of her mother’s death, Natalie Tan returns to her home city of San Francisco after seven years to find that the bustling city she remembers from her childhood is fading and the neighbourhood is urging her to help them.  A story of community, friendship and the importance of fresh starts, this read is great if you wish to experience the new beginnings of spring.
  • If you like adventure and friendship – try Coast of Storms by Julian M Armstrong--one of Rowanvale’s own authors! The final tale in the Chronicles of Tala series, this book follows exiled elven prince Glorhelm and his companions on their search for the Cloak of Impenetrability. With plenty of twists and turns along the way, this book is perfect if you need some escapism from your winter slump.

2. Get Creative!

Now that you’ve chosen some spring reads to add to your list, the only thing left to do is use your creative flair to make the list more interesting. Booksandquills used lino prints of autumnal objects on her own list, but any arts and crafts you have access to will work just as well! Details from small drawings to pressed spring flowers will help your list look seasonal and appealing. By making your list look worthy of the books it contains, you will be more motivated to stick to it, and your reading goals for this spring will definitely be met.

To gain some inspiration for your reading list, why not explore some titles recently released by our Rowanvale authors?
