The Adventures of Kayla the ElfKaren Tartaglia
Kayla, a 271-year-old elf, has become famous in Christmas Village for all the wrong reasons. After centuries of accidents and disasters, she is given one final chance to prove herself by becoming a Scout Elf. Her first assignment is in England, where Kayla finds herself in the home of nine-year-old Annalee, a shy girl who only feels safe when she feels invisible. In search of a fresh start, her family recently moved to a creaky, crumbling old house. Here, Annalee has every intention of keeping her safety net of invisibility securely tied around herself.
When Annalee accidentally discovers Kayla hiding in her bedroom, both of their lives change in unexpected ways. Kayla desperately wants to help Annalee, but her well-meaning plans often go wrong, from almost ruining a school nativity to flooding a bathroom, and even causing a small fire. Each mistake makes Kayla worry she’ll never be good enough to succeed. But then, something incredible happens. Kayla’s clumsy efforts help Annalee find the voice she has buried deep inside her. As Annalee develops the confidence to make new friends and believe in herself, Kayla too grows in fortitude. With Christmas approaching, the pair uncover hidden truths within Annalee’s house, and their bond will soon become unbreakable. Funny, heartfelt, and full of holiday magic, this story is about friendship, bravery, and learning that sometimes, believing in yourself is the best magic of all. Genre: Children's Book
