About Peter Wooldridge:
Based at The Workshop in Cardiff, south Wales, Peter Wooldridge specialises in discovering and coaching new talent for work in film and television. His training method has successfully introduced several established Welsh actors to the industry, notably Ioan Gruffudd (Titanic) and Owain Yeoman (The Mentalist), both of whom are now based in the United States of America. Closer to home, BAFTA Cymru award-winning actress Mali Harries started her acting career at The Workshop, along with Lloyd Everitt, the youngest actor to play Othello at The Globe Theatre. Other alumni include Catrin Stewart (Dr Who), Craig Roberts (Submarine), Elinor Crawley (Vikings), Gerran Howell (The Pitt), Banita Sandhu (Bridgerton) and Hannah Daniel (Hinterland).
As a casting director, Peter has worked on a number of high-profile international feature films. He is known for Killer Elite (UK casting) starring Jason Statham, Robert De Niro and Clive Owen; and Nightwatching, written and directed by Peter Greenaway, with Martin Freeman as Dutch artist, Rembrandt. This followed another Greenaway epic, a trilogy of films entitled The Tulse Luper Suitcases.
With Oscar nominated Dutch director Ben Sombogaart and Los Angeles based casting director Sharon Howard-Field, he worked on the classic Kruistocht in Spijkerbroek. He also assisted on the casting of another Dutch film, Bride Flight. Further UK casting credits include the BAFTA Cymru Best Film Award for Undertaking Betty with Brenda Blethyn, Alfred Molina, Christopher Walken and Naomi Watts; and Arthur’s Dyke starring Pauline Quirke for Channel 4 Films. His work as a commercials casting director has included projects for Amazon and eBay, together with several infomercials for the Welsh Government.
For Peter, The Workshop studio is the place where he continues to practise a style of performance which embraces authenticity and integrity. The experiences and personal choices he has made since his early visits to the theatre have all impacted on the way he approaches his work today. As an actor, he started in what was considered to be physical and experimental theatre, and while his approach has evolved from those early beginnings the significance of that period in his life remains deeply rooted in his work dovetailing physical connection and interaction with verbal communication.
