TAKE THE CRITICISM ON BOARD – Not everyone is going to tell you the reason why they rejected your manuscript, but please pay attention to those that do. This criticism, coming from a publishing professional, will hopefully be constructive and so will help you to become a better writer.
THINK ABOUT SELF-PUBLISHING – If you are tired of receiving rejection letter after rejection letter from traditional publishing houses (which is totally understandable, btw), maybe look into publishing your book yourself. If you are a regular reader of the “The Write Stuff” you’ll know that we’ve written many a time about the various benefits self-publishing - it’s definitely a route that’s worth considering.
TAKE HEART – And remember, '1984’ by George Orwell was rejected by at least four publishers before it finally made it into print in 1949; ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ by J K Rowling was rejected by publishers twelve times; and ‘Carrie’ by Stephen King was rejected a whopping thirty times by publishers; and all of these novels are all considered to be classics today.
