James McKeon
About James McKeon:
James McKeon works as a Creative Arts and Play Therapist and Supervisor. With a passion for helping children’s emotional well-being, he regularly uses therapeutic stories in his practice with children and their families to enable them to identify their own struggles and guide them towards ‘healing’. He believes well-illustrated picture books are a wonderful tool to support children who may be feeling lost, overwhelmed and isolated to know they are related to and seen. James also believes in the power of play and other creativity to connect with children.
James was inspired to write this book after reading Lisa Spiegel’s Internal Family Systems Therapy with Children and watching the Inside Out Pixar films. He became fascinated by the concept that we often have parts that need to be understood, realising there was a lack of therapeutic story books introducing this idea to children.
As well as working directly with children, parents and teaching staff, James is passionate about sharing the knowledge he has via his social media accounts, playtherapywithJames on Instagram and, similarly, Play Therapy with James on Facebook. On these pages, he offers advice, tips and his own learnings and reflections based around the topic of children’s mental health.
Aside from his work, James is an avid Nottingham Forest fan who loves watching and playing football. He also finds great joy in good coffee, spending mindful time cooking and, when he remembers, doing yoga and meditation.
