About the Author

Ina Dempster was born in Jamaica and grew up in the 1940s. She became a junior school teacher at the age of seventeen, but later joined one of her older sisters in catering for tourists at a guest house on Jamaica’ North Coast. There she relished the opportunity to meet foreign visitors from different parts of the world. Ina moved to the United Kingdom in 1961 and trained as a nurse; she has worked at various hospitals in Cardiff, where she and her family used to live.

Ina has written three stage plays in her lifetime, and from 1986-1988 she was coordinator of Caribbean Focus and the Caribbean Education Project; this saw her receive invitations to work with various schools and colleges, including Aberystwyth University. Now a grandmother and great grandmother, Ina’s love of writing, which she has harboured since the age of eleven, remains as strong as ever.
